This lot first housed East Side Planning Mill which became Jaeger Manufacturing and early commercial store fixture producer. The Jaegar family held ownership of the property from 1907 – 1997.
Hawkeye Cord Tire Co. (aka Hawkeye Tire and Rubber Co.) leased the building from 1916-1930; Hawkeye produced the first tires west of Ohio, it moved to a larger facility.
The building remained empty from 1931 – 1939 when Beal’s Lithography and Printing Co. took over the south half of the building. Beal was a printer of morale-boosting posters for WW2 especially featuring the WAC’s.
The north half was leased by Old Style Lager. Inc. from 1936 until 1949. When a spectacular fire broke out. Within an hour the roof has collaged and exploding beer bottle made it sound like a war zone. The rebuilding of the north half started in 1953. It was rebuilt with heavy timbers due to the restriction of the use on steel during the Korean War.
Dilley Manufacturing Co. moved in 1971 printing, making book covers and binders. They unified the two building in 1993 and moved to Clive in 2014. Bob Dilley served on the DM P&Z and was on the committee that developed the commercial plans for the East Village.
The $4.8 million renovation designed by InVision is underway and will include 25,000 sq ft of commercial space. Christensen Development is the developer and one of the tenant
