Brenton Skating Plaza
520 Robert D. Ray Drive
Gifted by the Brenton Foundation, opened in November 2006.
The plaza engages the riverfront and creates a signature destination, all at the foot of the Des Moines’ skyline.
From April to October there is a one-of-a-kind canopy allowing for rain and sun protection.
From November to March the 120′ x 60’ skating rink holds up to 220 skaters.
- It takes 8,000 gallons of water to form the ice rink.
- There are 13 miles of piping under the surface to refrigerate the 2” thick ice surface.
