Barney Sakulin Cabin

Southwest of MLK/Elm and First/Water Streets

This cabin, c. 1843 actually transplanted from Washington County, Iowa, is preserved as a monument to commemorate Fort Des Moines No. 2 and the birth of the city of Des Moines, Iowa. Though it is not original to the fort, the cabin suggests what some buildings of the fort must have looked like
