Ethne Clarke, internationally known lecturer and author, will give a richly illustrated talk about mid-twentieth century garden design at this event, presented by the Iowa Architectural Foundation in collaboration with the Des Moines Botanical Garden. Her new book, The Mid-Century Modern Landscape, is a fresh guide to the period, and one filled with inspiration for the home garden today. Ms. Clarke will explore the origins of mid-century modern garden design, revealing how architects like Frank Lloyd Wright and Cliff May worked with landscape architects to blur the divisions between indoors and outdoors, creating gardens that were for living. Their influence continues to inspire contemporary gardens around the world. Copies of Ms. Clarke’s book The Mid-Century Modern Landscape (Gibbs Smith) will be available for purchase at the event.
