This 1914 “fireproof” building, designed by Proudfoot & Bird, was originally planned to be East Des Moines’ third skyscraper with 6 stories to replace an earlier two-story frame structure. Instead, the 1916 building was only built with 3 stories and a high attic. There is a two-story lobby with marble wainscot and a stained glass skylight. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
