What is now the Des Lux Hotel was  designed by Proudfoot Bird & Rawson in 1913  to house the Des Moines Club. In 1974 it was sold by Ruan Corporation to the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine to use as a lodge. By 1988, the building was gutted and stood empty for 12 years. In 2000, and again in 2013, the building was converted into hotel suites.  You can still get a glimpse of the original gargoyles at the roof line.
