The architect for this 1916, 6-story automobile department store is unknown. It was built for the Clemens family business which sold Willy and Overland automobiles. It served as the home for Standard Glass & Paint from 1924 – 1979. Hotel Fort Des Moines eventually bought the structure to create a spa and pool area for guests and provide space for a restaurant. Blackbird Investments recently renovated it into 44 units, with Bubba, a Southern style restaurant, on ground floor.
