This building was designed and constructed from 1889 – 1903 by Smith & Gutterson as the Des Moines Public Free Library. The exterior is Minnesota pink sandstone. The library originally housed the Women’s Club, GAR Chapter and the Cummins Art School.  The most recent restoration was by Gensler Architecture and RDG Planning & Design, in 2012, as a home for the World Food Prize. They returned the historic east staircase of the building to its original orientation facing the river (retaining a west entrance as well), making the building a centerpiece of the new Principal Riverwalk development. 101 Locust ST, Des Moines, IA 50309
