Krause Gateway Center was designed by Internationally renowned Italian architect Renzo Piano, working collaboratively with Iowa firm, OPN Architects. The new five-story headquarters features wall-to-wall expanses of glass to allow natural light into the building, with views onto Pappajohn Sculpture Park and Des Moines’ skyline. It has an open office floor-plan to foster collaboration and flexibility; a multi-purpose room for all-company gatherings; a conference center and outdoor meeting spaces; a game room; fitness and locker rooms; parking; and the Krause’s expansive art collection throughout. With LEED certification, it incorporates a large green roof to decrease the impact of energy use and water runoff. Roof overhangs further reduce energy consumption, as well as providing architectural interest to the design. The fully landscaped plaza surrounds the building and serves as an extension of the park.
