This Classic Revival style building was designed in 1912 by Proudfoot, Bird & Rawson as the YMCA. It had two gyms with an elevated running track, a pool, handball courts and 165 rooms. The Iowa Commission for the Blind purchased the building in 1959. The historical significance is based on Dr. Kenneth Jerganson and his civil rights efforts for the blind. The building features buff brick in Flemish bond, with terra cotta and brick accents. It was added to National Register in 2009. 524-4th ST, DSM, IA
