A hotel has been on this site since the 1850’s. On April 6, 1928 fire devastated the original wood frame hotel. The following year, H. L. Stevens Company of Chicago was hired to design this fireproof Commercial Art Deco style building. The crown at the top was originally lit. Materials include marble, onyx, bronze and silver. The lobby features original Art Deco detailing, as well as a mural above the reception desk. In 2006 it was converted into 54 apartments by Invision Architecture and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
