The buildings at 1420 and 1430 Locust Street, located along Pappajohn Sculpture Park, were both designed by the Iowa architectural firm of Proudfoot Bird and Rawson in the early 1920’s. They were built with showrooms facing Locust Street, and were originally part of what was known as Auto Row. Slingshot Architecture completed their recent re-design and the buildings were added to the National Register. The historic fabric of the buildings had long been covered with dropped ceilings, carpet, and drywall. The architects brought back skylights, added new windows, created new side entrances and a large steel, wood, and vegetative entry wall. 1430 is now +39 Restaurant and DLR Architects.
