Architect James Egan of Chicago designed this Richardsonian Romanesque Cathedral and Rectory, built 1890 to 91. The rectory was built in 1927, and designed by Des Moines architects John Normile and Amos Emery. Note the rusticated Bedford limestone walls. The interior is dominated by a 50 ft, barrel-vaulted ceiling in the nave.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
